Excellent suggestions.In my opinion, a more targeted title to match the suggestions would be "7 Ways to Improve Your Job Search While Employed." Also, I think it's a great suggestion to hire a resume writer to ensure your resume is formatted professionally and to help give you a competitive edge. But according to today's rates, and by surveying many of the resume writers on LinkedIn, you'd find it's going to cost a little more than "a hundred dollars or so" to get this done. What I tell my clients is to look at what they make in one day of work. If they would take 1-2 day's worth of their salary and invest that amount into their resume, that could very well net them thousands more in a new job.

Employers should not limit their search for an employee on monster.com or careerbuilder. They should widen their horizon and be open to new and alternative places to find talented and skillful staffs.

Former Gigwalker,

According to Gigwalk their suppose to give you a one day notice upon termination. I didn't get that! During their recent website update, I keep on trying to login! but was unsuccessful. After a few attempts I finally got a message saying " Agent Blocked" According to Gigwalk I was no longer considered a candidate for Gigs. Because of client feedback from previously completed Gigs. What I can recall from my last previous Gigs I had Great! feedback!, one Gig I had to purchase a particular food product in order to complete the Gig. I really enjoyed! doing these Gigs, being long term unemployed Father with two young children to support, with no longer receiving any State or Federal Unemployment Insurance. Well, maybe this transpired because I didn't have a enough " Street-Creds" a way ranking how many competed and successful Gigs you completed, the more money you make and your credibility of ranking stand-out above the rest. Who know's what had transpired ? Lord help you! if you have time restraints and if your are a unemployed, Military member, single parent...Oh! Yes! All Gigs are not Gauranteed For Payment of Work Done! Especially Car Gigs! Anyway! I had fun while it lasted made a few bucks! bought Milk, eggs, bread for my kids, put gas in the car for job hunting..... But, give it a try! I hope it work's out! for ya!........God Bless! ya all!.....Thankful!!

We cannot legislate morality. Our nation is striving to try to fix the problem
of unemployment, but our current economic state reflects the choices that we
have personally made. There is no law
that can be passed that will make people make non-prejudicial business
decisions. We are so busy about blaming
one another versus trying to put together a realistic plan that will put people
to work and generate a recovery to our economy.
My advice for the unemployed is try to become self-employed or try to
find an employer who looks at the unemployed without prejudice. I say let the employer advertise. Why create false hope. The employer is not going to hire the
unemployed. There are moral people in
this country. Find a moral employer. Our recovery will not come from Washington or
from corporate America, but from the hearts of moral citizens who strive to do
the right thing and not only for themselves, but our country.

Third party studies show that job boards are the second largest source of hires behind only networking by employers.

I agree with much of Mary's article except for the section where she tells candidates that employers "place" jobs by occupational category. They don't. There are 100,000 job boards, about half of which primarily target U.S. candidates including the one that I founded, http://www.CollegeRecruiter.co.... All of them require employers to enter a job title. Some of them -- not all -- allow or require employers to also select one or more occupational categories. So if you keyword search the job title that an employer would use, you will find their job posting ad regardless of what occupational field they categories the posting under.
